3o years ago Richard and Susan Blank moved to Scenery Hill in beautiful, rural Washington County, Pa. They had a dream. The dream was to breed and raise local, free-range, pasture-raised beef for the discerning customer.
This is how it began.
When Richard was young, he worked many summers on his brother’s farm, caring for cattle, horses, sheep and pigs. Almost not tall enough to reach the pedals, his summer work included driving the John Deere tractor to rake and bale hay.
Richard loved the work and the lifestyle, even though he was born and raised in the Pittsburgh, Pa suburbs, and he was running his own shipyard business on the Pittsburgh rivers. As luck would have it, he found the perfect 110 acre farm to share with the love of his life, Susan. Susan agreed that the farm was absolutely beautiful, ideally nestled in a valley in Scenery Hill. It was the perfect place to call home and to follow their dream. Their first purchase after buying the farm… five beef cows.
The addition of farm manager Harry Frederick, a Wyoming cowboy and life-long cattleman has complemented Richard and Susan’s stewardship of the land and compassionate treatment of the cattle. Maggie and Finn, Harry’s Border Collies, are a pleasure to watch as they guide the various herds to their next pasture.
Thirty years of steady improvements to the land, perfecting herd genetics, and developing superior handling facilities, has culminated in a product that Richard, Susan and Vistamont Farms are proud to present to you, their discerning customer.
